From the UK there are many different ways to get to DLP, Im going to go through the main ones with you all and let you know my preference. The main ways people travel from the UK are Flying, Ferry, Eurostar & Euro tunnel. Ive been able to do all these ways but my preferred way is Eurostar, depending where you are in the UK this will effect how you want to travel as Im only 30 min train to London I just find Eurostar easier to get to even though Luton Airport is a 15 min drive from my house, I don’t drive so would have to get someone to take me which isn’t always possible.
When flying you need to take into account the amount of luggage you can take without it costing you. Flying has got a lot more expensive in recent years, especially if your going for more than 3 days. The extra costs of flying with having to pay to add hold luggage and then if you want to select your seats to ensure your all sitting together. I also feel that having to get to the airport 3 hours before isn’t that great for younger children or family. If your from the top end of the UK this is probably your preferred way as it’s quicker and can work out cheaper for you. As I mentioned I do price up flights but for me I love an outfit change so a 4 day trip thats normally 8-10 outfits for me and I can’t fit all of that in a cabin bag and still have room to bring back some Disney goodies and after adding a hold bag that increases the cost which for me makes it more expensive than getting the Eurostar.
The ferry is a popular way to travel to France as you have the comfort of your own car and you can take your as much luggage and snacks with you (there are new rules on taking certain foods from the UK into the EU https://www.completefrance.com/news/rules-for-travelling-to-france-after-brexit-8307292 .) Ive done the ferry a number of times as this was our preferred method to get to France for our family holidays, I have also done the ferry on a coach and gone straight to Disney, I don’t find the ferry to bad I know some people feel sea sick but for me depending on the time of the crossing I will just sit down making sure Im facing forward, normally when I first get on the ship I like to have a little look around the shops and if its around a meal time I will get some food. My last experience on a ferry wasn’t the best as the sea was very rough and we actually had to down anchor for around 45 mins not far from being back at Dover. Just remember if your driving in France there are certain things that need to be in the car with you by law.
Eurostar is my preferred method as it’s nice and relaxing and doesn’t actually take that long (I will be doing a whole Eurostar post so stay tuned.) I love getting the Eurostar as you only have to get there an 1hour-45mins before if not travelling on the direct to Disney for this service it’s 2hours-1.5hours before, you can also take 2 large suitcases each as well as a personal items such as a handbag/backpack there is no restrictions of liquids and the same food restrictions apply although Ive been told that you can take such items on to eat on the journey but must be thrown away before exiting. The luggage is all included in the price you pay which I think is an amazing deal especially if you know a rough time you want to go you can get a cheap Eurostar ticket. I tend to pay around £80-£150 return just depends on how far in advance I book and the time of year. The train is normally around 2 hours which is 1 film to download from netflix. The seats are so comfortable and even if your not sitting on a set of 4 with a table the lap tray is massive and can easily fit a laptop on without it hanging off, between each seats they have an English plug and a French plug so you don’t have to worry about your device dying and you can recharge before heading to the park.
The last way people tend to travel is via the Euro tunnel, this is the train you drive on, I know a lot of people use this service as it’s only around 30 mins. I’ve never actually done the euro tunnel direct to Disney but I have been on it before when travelling to France. It’s a very similar to the ferry but instead of getting out the car and going up on deck you have to stay in your car for the duration which isn’t to bad as it’s 30 mins, they do have a toilet on board but with covid they haven’t been open but for only 30 mins if you go before you board its not to long to wait until your off and can stop. The price for Euro tunnel is done per vehicle not per person so this often works out cheaper. I know a lot of people who will get the earliest train out in the morning so they stay at the premier inn which is about a 5-10 min drive from the terminal. This is a great option if your driving down and you want to split the travel day up and make the most of the next day by getting to the park earlier.
I hope this has helped people get some ideas of which travel option is better for them. I will be doing a full Eurostar post as this is my preferred method and I get asked a lot about it, so if you want to know more about it keep an eye out for that post.
Sending you Pixie Dust
